WHAT A SUMMER!!!

Ok so I have been HORRIBLE at keeping up with this blog through the summer... They say the first step is admission! But I promise to add some images soon that will make it worth the wait.

I am working on getting this updated as soon as I can so you can see what I have been up to...

It's been an incredibly busy summer season...since June 1st there have been 23 weddings, 1 birth, and countless numbers of maternity, baby, children, senior high school, and family photo shoots....I hope to slowly add them in to the blog because I have met some very wonderful people this summer and I want to show you some of the incredible shots from each of the sessions and events.

I will be back dating all of them to when they occurred so keep checking back.

If you want to "cheat" you can go to my "on line proofs" page of my website and see a thumbnail from the sessions/weddings just as a teaser.

I hope you have had as wonderful as a summer as I have.

Senior Picture Specials...

Again this year I am making this offer to all of my senior high school clients...

With each friend you refer to me you receive a free sheet of photos in the pose of your choice. The friend needs to give me your name and you can redeem your free photos as soon as they come in for a sitting. The more friends you refer the more free photos you earn.

Also remember there are no limits on poses so you can get what you want and mom, you can get what you want, with no extra fees.

If you are finishing your Junior year right now, you should call soon. Most deadlines for the yearbook are soon after you go back to school in the fall. I am already booking up quickly and am scheduling appointments for July and August now. Don't wait, call today!

My Amazing Friend Norma

Norma is a lady I had the opportunity to work with in my former life before owning a photography studio. In 2004 she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She came in to my studio to have me take a few shots of her the day before she started treatment so she could have photos before her hair would fall out. Here is my favorite from the session.

Norma underwent treatment and the breast cancer went into remission. A few months ago she started to have severe headaches and it was determined that she had 3 lesions on her brain. She has continued to undergo more treatments and has just recently moved back to her home state of Virginia with her husband Matt and their 3 children. Before they left I took some family photos of them at the facility Norma was staying at recently. These are a few of them.
If anyone can beat something like this, I know it can be Norma. She is a brave, optimistic, determined lady and someone I am very glad I have had the privilege of crossing life's paths with. Norma and Matt, I will miss seeing you guys up here but I know your families will be glad to have you home. My best to all of you.

<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>

Just an update to the blog...one that is long overdue but it has taken me a while to able to write it....
Norma lost her battle with cancer on July 20,2007-not really all that long after my post...or our photo session. She is sadly missed by everyone who's life she touched including myself. My deepest and sincerest sympathies to her family especially her husband, her children and her parents.

Oops we did it AGAIN...

I meet with brides and grooms all the time....most will decide that they want me to shoot thier wedding. A few decide they will have a friend that is pretty decent with a camera take their photos instead of hiring a professional. And since I went through this process of budgeting a wedding myself not so long ago I completely understand trying to cut corners where you can...

that being said...your photos really are the most important part of your budget in that they are the only things you have after its all over. The dress hangs in the closet, the flowers wilt, the cake is eaten, the tuxes returned...you get the idea.

Often I have heard stories of regret. This couple recently hired me to take some professional shots of them a week AFTER the wedding because the friend's photos didn't come out at all...

We couldn't get photos of family and friends, we couldn't get the ceremony again but we did capture some really nice shots of them as a couple. He had to rent another tux and they had to buy more flowers but I know she is glad she has something to show. In the long run, it would have been less expensive if I had been there the first time.
So the lesson learned is if you want great photos of your day make sure you budget a professional photographer from the start and you can enjoy the cake, the dress, the flowers for years to come.

Here are some of my favorites from this shoot.

Eternal Flame

Ashley & Scott came in today, they are getting married on June 30th. They wanted some nice engagement photos so we did some of those....then...we had a little fun. They both are on the fire department in Boothbay Harbor and they brought their gear with them...they were so cute...these are some of my favorites from the shoot but certainly not all of my favorites. As a side note I shot Ashley's senior pictures a few years ago and it was great to see her moving on to this next stage in her life. Ashley and Scott you guys were so much fun and look so happy together I can't wait to work with you again! Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

Wonderful Wedding Women!

I had a great time attending the first luncheon networking session of a group of maine women wedding photographers.

I have spoken to many of them on the phone, admired work by several of them, and shared tips with a few others over the past several years but we had never all gathered together in one place at one time...probably because most of us are scattered around the state in opposite directions every weekend.

It was also nice to meet some of the newer, up and coming ladies and to hear the stories about what brought everyone into the business. Ladies, it was a pleasure meeting all of you! I am looking forward to doing it again.

Here is a photo that was taken for us by our waiter...he did pretty good I think....considering the amount of incredible talent that was sitting in that room!

Rock On Tracey!!

Well "Jazz On" is probably more like it. Tracey MacLean came to me over a year ago to help her create the cover photo for her first solo CD.

In that year I have come to know that this lady is not only one of the most amazing Jazz singers this state has seen but she is as equally an amazing person. I am also happy to say that over this past year Tracey went from being a stranger to a client and then to someone I call my friend.

Also in that year I was taking images, editing images, listening to Tracey sing and tell me about herself as a person, her journey to this point in her life. I knew that the image for the cover of her CD needed to show the passion she has for her talent, the emotion she adds from someplace deep within, and it need to be as colorful and fun (and REAL) as she is.

So I did what I do with everyone that comes into my studio...I shot and I shot and we talked and I shot some more and we talked again...then I took what we had shot, listened to Tracey and what she liked and didn't like, what she wanted to portray to her audience, and imagined myself in the cd store looking through cds (ok so that part was unique to this session) and what I would I need to see to know all of that.

Tracey and I met several times and I showed her my vision with the help of Photoshop and viola! Not only has Tracey used this image as her cover but some of these others may be found inside and on the back.

She sings often at the Solo Bistro in Bath, stop in and check her out! If you are interested in her cd you can find it at the Brunswick Borders or by going to http://www.traceymaclean.com/

I hope to have her music playing on my website soon...so you can get a little taste that way.

Thanks Tracey for allowing me to be a part of such an exciting step in your career.

Can't Decide?? No Problem!

Even though I offer the Ala Carte so that you don't have to pick just one pose for all of your photos...sometimes wall space becomes an issue or you want to put a bunch of your favorites all on display and don't want a large photo of them all side by side....

Almost all of my clients have told me the only bad thing about coming to me is there are too many great shots to choose from....well if that's my biggest flaw, then I am OK with that!

I am offering composites so you can create an 8x10 or 11x14 (or larger) of your favorite images.

This senior and her mom came in last week and had had a very hard time deciding on which poses to order...we created this image together so she can have all of her favorites in one place and still order other poses to give to family and friends.

This is available for any session or combining from several sessions (such as a maternity then newborn, 3 month etc)

Ask me about creating one for you today!

Happy Bar Mitzvah Jared!

It was great to be a part of this young man's celebration a little over a week ago. He and his family were a pleasure to work with and his friends seem to be having quite a fun time at the reception thanks in part to DJ Jim Casey who was show casing his DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) to the kids that night as part of his gig. Congratulations Jared on this wonderful milestone moment in your life!

Marci & Michael (& Justin's) Wedding

I had the honor and privilege to shoot the wedding of this wonderful family yesterday. It was the uniting of not only 2 individuals but 3. Marci read a beautiful poem to Michael's son Justin during the ceremony pledging her love and devotion to him as her new step son. I don't think there were many dry eyes at that point in the service at the Richmond United Methodist Church.

They continued the celebration at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport. It was a beautiful sunny day and then during the reception large fluffy snow flakes coated the trees like confetti. It was a spectacular ending to a very love filled day.

These are just 2 of the photos from yesterday and I will have all of their photos up on line within a couple of weeks. Right now they are honeymooning in Las Vegas where it is rumored they are renewing their vows again today but this time by Elvis! I can't wait to see those photos! Congratulations and best wishes to you all! ~Roxanne

Jaclyn & Adam's maternity Session

This wonderful couple were one of my latest studio shoots. This image is one of my favorites from the session.

I am so honored when a couple comes in to allow me to capture this beautiful time in life. Over the past 4 years I have had women from all over the state traveling to see me for maternity sessions. This couple traveled over 2 hours to allow me to capture this for them.

I am now averaging a pregnant woman per week and yet every time I photograph one of these women, couples, or families it's as exciting and unique as the first. The birth of a child is truly amazing in so many ways, I feel proud I can keep that moment alive for generations.

Adam & Jaclyn, best wishes on your new arrival and I can't wait to meet the baby!

A New Blog for a New Website...

Well I am almost finished with my new look for my website so I decided it was a good time to add a blog too...so I can show the work as it happens instead of waiting to get it up on the website in groups...

Thank you to all of my past and present clients for your continued support and allowing me to be a part of your families.

And to everyone else...I look forward to sharing my work with you too. I love feed back, so feel free to post or shoot me an email.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping in,

Roxanne
